- 1967 Red Ford Mustang - Specialty Sales Classics
Automania is an annual event that happens the last weekend in June in Sioux Falls, SD. I have watched the event grow from one evening during the week to a three-day weekend event. The typical schedule of events starts with a huge classic car show on Friday evening in lovely downtown Sioux Falls. Imagine twenty blocks filled with every possible variety of classic cars and classic motorcycles and you will have a good idea of what this event is like. Thousands of classic cars and people fill the streets. Be prepared to be amazed.
Friday Events
During the Friday night car show, the downtown stores stay open. In addition, Sioux Falls has many bars and restaurants from which to choose. Our downtown food and drink establishments have sidewalk tables where you can relax with a cool, refreshing beverage and people watch. People from all lifestyles come to this event. Bikers, senior citizens, families, and teenagers attend Automania. Maybe you can pick up some fashion tips from the teenagers. *grin*
Vendors come to Automania with t-shirts, food, and specialty car parts. It is usually hot whenever this event occurs. In order to cool off, buy a snow cone or an ice cream cone from one of the food vendors to enjoy as you walk around viewing the beautiful classic cars.
Adding to the fun atmosphere of the car show is entertainment the whole evening. Entertainers have included Elvis tribute artists and 50s and 60s cover bands. Seating is available to watch the entertainers so you can get off your feet. For those who never tire, there is usually a dancing area between the stage and the seating area. Practice those sock-hop dance moves and come on down.
Saturday Events
Saturday’s festivities consist of a classic car auction. If you have always dreamed of owning a classic car and have been saving up, now is your chance to make your dream come true. I almost was caught up in the excitement last year and bought my dream 1967 red Mustang, then reality set in. Maybe one of these days. *sigh*
Sunday Events
On Sunday, there is a garage tour. This is an event where private car collectors and dealerships specializing in classic cars open up their collections to public viewing. This event is a must see.
